A more comfortable home, year round.
Rural Colorado homeowners love heat pumps and dual fuel systems. Zero Homes makes it easy to get high-quality designs and top-notch installations.
About Heat Pumps
Heat pumps are an energy-efficient way to heat and cool your home, especially suited for Colorado's varied climate. Heat pumps move heat instead of creating it. In winter, they draw warmth from the outdoor air - even in freezing temperatures - and bring it inside. In summer, they reverse the process to cool your home. Because they transfer heat rather than generate it, heat pumps can deliver 3 to 4 times more energy than they consume.
Traditional fossil-fuel based systems like furnaces and boilers use gas, oil or propane through combustion to generate heat. Furnaces, or forced-air systems, distribute heated air through ductwork and vents. Boilers heat water via combustion and then use it to provide heat via radiators, baseboards or radiant floor heating. These systems only heat - where a heat pump system heats and cools!

Zero Homes is offering limited time discounts to Tri-State electric cooperative members.
-
Install two or more scopes (for example, a heat pump and a heat pump water heater) and receive $500 off your total project price. All participating electric utility cooperatives are eligible: MVEA, SLVREC, SDCEA, GCEA & HEA.
-
GCEA members receive an additional $1,000 off their heat pump or dual fuel project scope.

Comparing heat pumps, furnaces & dual fuel systems
-
Heat pumps are highly efficient because they transfer heat rather than generate it. They do this by extracting heat from the outside air, even in colder temperatures. This means they use less energy compared to an electric baseboard, furnace or boiler.
A dual fuel system combines the efficiency of a heat pump with the reliability of a furnace or boiler for extreme cold.
-
Gas Systems vs. Heat Pumps: Gas may be sold at a lower rate to electricity, which a heat pump uses to generate heat. However, heat pumps require less energy overall to run.
Electric Baseboards vs. Heat Pumps: Baseboards generate heat directly by converting electricity into heat, while heat pumps transfer heat rather than generate it. This leads to lower energy bills
Dual Fuel (Fuel + Heat Pumps): The beauty of a dual fuel system ensures you're only using fuel when the heat pump isn't as efficient enough (in extremely cold temperatures), likely lowering your overall heating costs.
Maintenance: Heat pumps require regular maintenance (e.g., cleaning filters, checking refrigerant levels, etc.), but in general, they have lower ongoing operational costs than gas furnaces. Gas furnaces tend to require more frequent maintenance (e.g., checking burners, cleaning vents, ensuring proper gas flow) and can be more expensive to repair when issues arise.
-
Today’s technologically advanced heat pumps provide more consistent, even heat, compared to a furnace or boiler that might have fluctuations between cycles. This leads to better comfort in your home.
Since heat pumps don’t burn any fuel, it will improve the overall air quality in your home.
-
Many utilities, including Tri-State’s electric cooperatives, and the State of Colorado offer significant rebates and incentives for installing energy-efficient systems like heat pumps. This helps offset some of the initial installation costs.
Rebates are typically much more significant for heat pumps compared to new gas systems, which might not have any discounts at all.
Rebates & Tax Credits for Electric & Dual Fuel Heat Pumps
Incentives like rebates and tax credits lower the upfront cost and on-bill repayment financing is available to make your next HVAC upgrade even more affordable.
