Heat Pumps: Quick Facts
Energy Efficiency
Heat pumps are highly efficient because they transfer heat rather than generate it. They do this by extracting heat from the outside air, even in colder temperatures.
This means they use less energy compared to an electric baseboard, furnace or boiler.
Operating Costs
Electric Baseboards vs. Heat Pumps: Baseboards make heat by converting electricity into heat. Heat pumps transfer heat rather than generate it. This leads to lower energy bills.
Gas Systems vs. Heat Pumps: Gas may be sold at a lower rate to electricity, which powers heat pumps. However, heat pumps require less energy overall to run.
Propane Systems vs. Heat Pumps: Propane is expensive to rely on as your main heating source. A heat pump uses electricity, which is often cheaper than propane, particularly during milder months.
Comfort & Control
Today’s technologically advanced heat pumps provide more consistent, even heat, compared to a furnace or boiler that might have fluctuations between cycles. This leads to better comfort in your home.
Since heat pumps don’t burn any fuel, it will improve the overall air quality in your home.
