Zero Homes Partners with Tri-State to Expand Home Heating Electrification Access Across the Rural West

Zero Homes has proudly partnered with Tri-State Generation & Transmission to make electrification easy and accessible for homeowners across the rural West. Tri-State is a not-for-profit cooperative power supplier serving 40 utilities and more than one million energy consumers across nearly 200,000 square miles in Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Wyoming.

Through the Electrify and Save Program, Zero Homes is helping Tri-State to further its mission of providing reliable, affordable, and responsible electricity while meeting its goal of ensuring that 50% of the electricity consumed by its members comes from clean resources by 2025.

As part of the program, homeowners complete virtual energy assessments using the Zero Homes mobile app. The system guides homeowners as they photograph their home, then our advisors generate a custom design and electrification plan for their unique structure. This can include heat pumps, dual fuel systems, induction stoves, electric water heaters and more. Advisors also flag available rebates that lower costs and coordinate with contractors to get the job done.

In other words, Zero Homes simplifies the electrification process and supports homeowners through every step of their home electrification journey.

Tri-State’s on-bill repayment program also minimizes the up-front costs that can stand between homeowners and a more energy efficient home. After installation is complete, homeowners have the option to pay for their upgrades over time. Even better: homeowners' monthly savings from increased efficiency often offsets or exceeds monthly repayment amounts.

Together, Zero Homes and Tri-State show how smart partnerships can remove barriers and make the clean energy transition easier for the communities we serve, especially in rural areas where access to vetted contractors and expert guidance can be limited.

Supporting Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities

By focusing on the rural communities that Tri-State serves, Zero Homes is helping overcome the barriers that keep many families from accessing energy upgrades. In a recent study, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy found that one in four low-income households spend more than 15% of their annual income on energy bills — three times the national average.

Zero Homes knows it is critical to start with more efficient, better-designed HVAC systems to lower the cost burden on low-income households. Zero Homes uses the same Manual J®-certified tools across all our partnerships to tailor each system to a home’s exact size, layout and energy needs. This level of precision helps families save money and reduce energy waste no matter where they live.

Zero Homes is Making Electrification Easier One Partnership at a Time

Zero Homes is on a mission to make home electrification simple and accessible for all homeowners. Our partnerships with cities and utilities across the country are giving households the tools they need to reduce energy use, lower monthly bills and shift away from fossil fuels.

The growing demand for more efficient homes gives local governments and energy providers a powerful role in guiding the shift toward cleaner, more reliable energy.

If you are a member of one of the utilities for which Tri-State provides generation and transmission and are interested in learning if electrifying your home can save you money — let’s talk!
